I don't mind people hanging out on their phones on buses / waiting for stuff etc. but I think they legitimately can't communicate anymore. I fucking hate going to restaurants with people and they're fucking with their phones instead of hanging out.
don't bullshit me that this is 'communication' and their social life is so rich. communication and discussion is going the way of the dinosaurs.

I sort of agree.

I don't like it when people post pics of people using their phones on the bus, and complain that no one communicates anymore, because really, when was riding the bus a social event? Why shouldn't people entertain themselves with games/the internet or talk to people who aren't physically present when they're on the bus?

But I hate going out with friends and being ignored because they're on their phones. I hate when people invite me over to their house and then just mess around on their laptop the whole time (okay... I'll just sit here and stare into space while you entertain yourself...). Maybe they ARE communicating with someone, but if you've invited someone out to do something, you should be communicating with THEM, not ignoring them and talking to someone else online. That's just rude.

Yes to all of this.

(Although I'd argue that even before phones... I know people who will just walk up and leave in the middle of a conversation, and not even to do phone stuff. It's not that they're distracted by technology, it's that they're easily distracted. However, it's both rude with and without a cellphone.)

op
see, I think that this behavior is linked to the way people skip around on social media, the speed of commercials, etc. Attension spans are shortening, and people can't live in the moment.
But yes, it is so rude, and also depressing.

For the record I think you just have shitty friends.

I go out and my friends are on their phones and they're showing each other what's on the phones and laughing about it and talking simultaneously.

Your friends are just shit.

what if they're showing each other cat videos or texting each other things they can't say outloud in a public place?

Yes, this. This is what bothers me so much.
