That's actually a reasonable assumption, considering what the original movie was like.

Not saying the movie is bad, mind you; just that it's very different from the show in terms of style and tone and... everything.

AYRT - I never actually saw the movie; I think it was mostly the names of the characters, tbh, as well as the way pop culture tended to describe them. (Teen magazines completely like totally dumbed the show down. "And like Buffy like has a sister OMG!!!")
