It feels like half my students are going to.

Everybody: please do not to use your or your parents' money to go to an expensive college to just sit on your ass and not do the work or not study for your midterms. What is the point of that?

If someone is telling you what you need to do to get a good grade on your paper and you say "I disagree" well good for you (you overly wordy hack who can't actually write) but don't expect a better grade without changing everything.

Also this isn't elementary school if you cannot follow a simple movie or narrative perhaps you are not ready for this? I'm sitting in my office hours and you aren't even letting me help? All these ESL students are busting their asses trying to struggle through this material and meanwhile you're whining about five large font pages in your native language that you knew about all week.

The sad thing is, they won't realize what a valuable opportunity going to college is until they have left. Some people just don't like academics, I get that, but I know a lot of people just don't appreciate it until after they've joined the work force. I find a lot of the older adult students tend to be way more engaged in the work then the young ones are.
