This is really ridiculous. There are many different types of fictional relationships and many different perspectives on all of them. None of them is inherently superior to any other. A fictional relationship cannot be sacred.

Did I miss a fandom memo about not being allowed to have favorite ships anymore? I usually try not to tell people to lighten up, but your comment seems a little intense.

The secret didn't sound like they were calling it their favorite ship, though. It sounded like they were saying it was objectively the best ship.

I don't think OP was trying to convey objectivity. I didn't get the sense from the secret that they were holding other people to their own shipping standard - though I agree if they are/were doing that, then that's obnoxious.

"In my long and storied fandom career, I have only ever considered one thing sacred..."

Even if your interpretation is right, people are allowed to feel that their ship is the best ship. You're usually one of the most sensible commenters on FS and I'm having trouble parsing why you read this secret so aggressively, but... /shrug

Sorry. I just checked it again, and I think the pain I'm currently in and my bad mood led me to over read into the secret a bit. You are right.

No worries. Like I said, you are one of the good eggs on FS. I hope you feel better soon!

OP

It's not a question of superiority. It's about a very particular kind of chemistry that has never been replicated and I don't believe ever will be.

I have a hard time buying that there is some sort of objective, specific chemistry that can never be replicated because I don't buy the idea of objective chemistry. I think it is entirely subjective. Even fans of the same ship can view it differently.

I get you, anon. :) You're right -- they were magical together from day one. They are the ship that inspired the word "ship" ffs!
