I love AUs. I used to write them in my main fandom, probably more than anything else. ALL about the AU, weirder teh better.

I think it got on people's nerves occasionally, but I was enjoying myself! :-)

I've...never seen a harem AU before. Is that a thing? I've seen fics (usually by dudes) where all the girls hook up with the main guy, but it usually takes place in the canon-verse even if it's unrealistic.

I've seen Harem AUs a few times in the Stargate fandom, but not really anywhere else. The 'Alternate Universe- Harem' tag only has eighty hits on ao3.

The only fandom I've seen it in is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, typically with halfhearted justifications about real-life equine mating behaviors. I suspect some of the people who write it have never watched the show and don't know it's AU.

(Technically, FIM does have a parallel universe where the main characters attend high school, but I don't count it as a high school AU. That shit's canon, and I've never seen an HS AU in the fandom that wasn't based on it.)
