Annnnd this might be the quickest I've ever started hating a piece of media. If this quote isn't from a character who's supposed to be a pretentious dumbass, I pretty much judge the whole thing to be trash.

Character is supposed to be pretentious, and also IIRC seriously mentally ill. He's also supposed to be likable, and the show is certainly critical of society on some level, but it's not expecting you to just agree with something like that on face value.

I'm not so sure I'd call Elliot pretentious, but I will say that he has a certain self-perception that he sees more clearly the defects of society than most others do.

TBH I agree with some of the things the character says, though.

I wouldn't say that. The show demonstrates that "normal" people also see the problems - they just also have to live their daily lives, and they do not want to (and better still, that they are not wrong for not wanting to) make choices that will disrupt their ability to be social.
