It's not so much the act of defending, it's the amount of personal vitriol involved when doing it. Sort of like...

nayrt, but yes, it is more of the latter. I don't care who wears what for Halloween, but am surprised that it is such a call to arms for people.

Probably because women hear this kind of thing constantly OUTSIDE of fandom, so seeing it here hits a nerve. You're sick of seeing the same costume over and over? I guarantee we're more sick of people judging our choices of clothing and using it as a litmus test for our intelligence and personality. Just like this secret does.
