Sha-la-head-cha-la...

(Anonymous) 2015-11-07 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I had nothing to do all until dinner tonight, so I spent a huge chunk of the day relaxing, and in a fit of nostalgia, I decided to do it by re-watching a huge amount of Dragon Ball Z, which I haven't seen in at least seven years.

It was just as awesome as it used to be. Granted, I find it to be a rather different kind of awesome than I did before, but it's still just as entertaining and makes me feel as if I was in junior high again. I had legitimately forgotten a lot of great things, like just how adorable Goku's voice is, how gradually and steadily Vegeta changed right there onscreen, how preposterously gory and violent the show was, how much more I appreciate the weaker characters like Krillin fighting while totally outclassed than I used to, and how deliciously detailed the animation of the fight scenes are at conveying just how much destructive power all those fights have, like the characters are normal humans trampling around in a world made entirely out of delicate glass sculptures and sand. Ahhhhh memories...

Favorite Character: Vegeta aka the source of my love for assholes with a nice center.

Favorite Fight: All of the Majin!Vegeta fights.

Favorite Attack Move: While I love Vegeta's shock and awe style of blasts...

Trunk's Burning Attack has a special place in my heart.

I binged on that last week, and it was so much fun! I had forgotten how much I enjoyed DBZ.

This was always the one thing that stood out to me most about DBZ as compared to the western superhero cartoons I usually watched (I didn't watch any anime other than DBZ as a kid). You always got such a strong sense of how fragile the surrounding environment was compared to the super-powered characters because of how constantly the environment was being affected by their every move. Even simple things like the water being blown up in big wings as if by a speeding motorboat during all those chases over the water on Namek.

Oh man I have a stupid amount of love for DBZ, I mean it's a silly fighting anime but I legit love so many of the characters and the fights were cool to look at.

Lovable characters + lovable characters interacting in really fun fight scenes = everything I want from entertainment tbh. ;) When I want something else, I'll watch something entirely different. ;)

Though Kai didn't do the episode where ChiChi makes Goku and Piccolo learn how to drive, which was the funniest ep in existence ;)

I'll admit that's a detraction

Funny thing, I was in a fast food restaurant today and the guy a few tables over was watching Dragon Ball Z on his phone.

I thought for a minute that you must be that guy (well, for all I know, maybe you are....)

Were you watching it on your phone at a MacDonalds in Maryland?
