Well, I don't think I want Marten to have Problems like Faye (alcohol, survivor's guilt), Hanners (OCD, socialisation issues), Dora (oh good lord!) and May (literally an ex-con) have. It's OK to have someone who's even-tempered and well-adjusted.

(That said, Marten started out as someone who moved across country for a girl who didn't love him back. He has his own issues.)
