quite frankly I never understood people who worship her. I can't relate to that princess image at all.

There are two 1950s-1960s era actresses whose personas turn me right off -- Audrey Hepburn is one of them. By all accounts, she was a lovely person IRL, so this isn't directed at her as a person, but I just can't take that "adorable petite ingenue" persona.

(The other is Brigitte Bardot. I can't stomach that "free-spirited sex kitten" image, either.)

Then you might have to steer away from Ann Margret, as she too had that image (especially in the film "The Swinger").

SA

Yes! Her too!

I watched a large chunk of a Brigitte Bardot movie on TCM once and her character wasn't even really all that in control of her sexuality and it was pretty male-gazey. Granted, that was just one movie, but she doesn't strike me as a sex role model.

Brigitte Bardot became pretty right-wing later in life, too. :/

(also, I just looked her up and because of your "free-spirited sex kitten" comment was amused to see that her sister starred in a movie called "Sex Kittens go to College!")

At least with Audrey, I can appreciate that she was actually a good person... Brigitte, not really.

I like Audrey, however, there's Natalie Wood, Diana Rigg, Catherine Deneuve, Lauren Bacall, Katharine Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Helen Mirren, Siân Phillips, Maggie Smith and Greta Garbo, as far as the classics go.

I need to watch more stuff with Diana Rigg.

Because she was beautiful inside and out. She wasn't just an actress but I love her as an activist and spokeswoman. She used her fame to make the world a little better. More then anyone can say about the Kardashian trash or 99% of the famous actors alive now.
