Skipping over the debate over whether or not they're good movies, why is it so hard for some people to understand that it's possible to like things even while thinking they're not that good objectively? Just like it's possible for people to recognize that a film is well-made but not like it anyway. Someone who says they like these movies isn't necessarily defending their quality. A lot of them are but it's not a given.

Might be true for other things but not this. I don't know what it is about the prequel debate, but I've never met anyone who thinks the films are bad but likes them anyway. People either vehemently hate them, or actually think they're worth defending. Very volatile subject.

I don't actually know what I think. I watched them a few years ago and remember liking them better than I expected but I don't remember enough to say if I think they're as awful as people say.

I sorta defend them. I think people who are fans of the OT would rate the prequels as, say, a 2/10 while people who haven't seen the OT would rate them a 7/10. They aren't great movies, but I think so much of the criticism isn't against them as movies, but against them as the heirs to Star Wars.

I think the films are bad but like them anyway. They have pacing issues up the wazoo, the writing is pretty stilted, some of the characters were annoying, and an unnecessary amount of attention was spent on background shots, but overall I like the story, like the fucked up Anakin/Padme, and like the politics. I found them really entertaining, and they pretty much embody the sort of prequels I enjoy most: stories about how things got fucked up.
