Interestingly, I re-watched Episode I the other day and had to agree it was pretty awful - I still enjoyed it, just didn't think it was really a good movie. However, I don't really understand why that's what's keeping you from trying the original trilogy? The whole point of prequel hate in SW is that they're not the same at all.

Maybe it won't be your cuppa, but it's just an odd reason for not trying, IMO.
