Tolkien: it would change too much about LotR, but I happily fantasize about a world where Thorin didn't die and he and Bilbo lived happily ever after. Oh, and obviously Alfrid. Or whatever his fucking name was.

I'm a masochist so I love the heartbreak of Thorin/Bilbo as is, yet I love reading fix-it fic as well. They should be happy in some alt universe.

And Alfrid was deplorable and a waste of screen-time.

Yup. Fix-it-fics are good, but give me all the angst. But, then again, I'm a Silm fan where everyone dies, usually horrifically. So Thorin/Bilbo isn't that bad by comparison.

There are worse Tolkien ships to ship, I know. Some even have incest in them! (Incest AND death, I think.)

Everyone ends up dead pretty much, so that's part of nearly every ship. Yes, there are incest ships, though the most popular one is only first cousin incest. Then there are the ones that I ship that involve dark lords and sometimes dead elves. I like the darker side of shipping a lot.
