I always visited the site directly, instead of via the Friends page. I think I was only in one relatively large fandom at the time, but I've always been interested in fandom as a whole, so I liked to skim over the topics.

But yes, if you were just reading it on your Friends page, it was probably an avalanche of postings.

AYRT - I think that's what I ended up doing, I'm not sure. IIRC I was still a relative newbie to LJ, so I don't think I'd quite grasped the common LJ sense stuff.
