Re: What in canon do you ignore?

I've actually been meaning to write some FFVII fic lately, but as Ioathe Compilation myself, I'd be using the original game only as reference, and I'm sure it would be called OOC based on that. (Aeris/Aerith/what-have-you is not the Holy Virgin trope personified, goddamnit. She threatened to rip a man's balls off with no hesitation!)

I wrote a fic a few years ago and said right on the top "This fic is original game canon only". No one whined about it, but then again, it was about Barret, and I don't think many new fans know who he is lol

Agreed on Aeris though. Squaresoft killed her once, Square Enix killed her again. Hated her in Crisis Core, ugh.

Ahhh that's depressing lol. I adore Barret! His utterly diminished role in Compilation is...noticeable, to say the least. I also live an extremely lonely life shipping Barret/Tifa...

I joke around that the reason I still call her Aeris is because Aerith is a completely different character, haha. Aeris is the self-motivated, saucy li'l imp I fell in love with, Aerith is the girl that decided to wear pink because a boy told her she'd be pretty in it.

High-five fellow Barret/Tifa fan!

And I'm with you on the name thing. To me, "Aeris" represents who she was in the original game, an adorably naughty troll who is brave, independent and oh yeah saves the world. "Aerith" is a breathy, always cowering damsel who is made of cardboard and is afraid of the sky.
