I imagine you're being sarcastic but honestly? Yeah, that's pretty much how it works.

Never being able to use what are regarded by some as slurs in any context is pointless and counterproductive. Words in the English language are capable of bearing more than one meaning, and the meaning of words changes all the time. Like, surely it's a good thing if people start using these words in other contexts rather than using them as slurs? That way you're taking power away from those words and reducing their ability to hurt people.

In time, retarded will probably be on the same level as 'lame' or 'stupid', in that it's only offensive to people who are actively trying to be offended (in fact it pretty much already is where I live). Why do you want to get in the way of that? Why do you want those words to continue being powerful and hurtful?
