Well, in Seattle specifically, there's actually plenty of room, it's just that people fight tooth and nail to prevent any forward momentum towards any real density in the city. Everything is zoned for single-family, and that's ridiculous.

Hell, a significant portion of the city doesn't have sidewalks because a bunch of stupid old farts aren't willing to lose four feet of their front yards. Kids walking to school have extremely dangerous commutes because of this, but nooooope can't ruin the view
