Would you ever eat insects? Do you think you'd eat them regularly, knowing that they are a good source of protein and a very sustainable food source?

Yeah, I mean if they were easily on hand and I knew how to prep them, I don't see why not. Honey-pot ant seems like it'd be cool to try at least once.

Only if I were like, starving. Under normal circumstances, I don't see myself ever willingly eating insects. For one, I'm vegetarian, but that's more of my cover-excuse. In reality, the thought seriously disgusts me. In theory, I totally support it, but I don't think I have the guts to just get the fuck over it and eat them.

Sure, would love to try at least. I have some problems with eating things with faces (and some legs), so I would prefer them not in their original form.

No. I don't think I'd be able to overcome the squick-factor.

Already did. There's this bug museum. And they cook up bugs for you to eat. It's a thing.

Maybe, if I could be sure they were safe to eat, and cooked in a way that made them tasty. Plus I have a weird diet thing so I'm not sure if they would be on the list of 'approved foods' that don't make me ill.

I'm supportive of the idea of switching to alternative proteins in general - producing beef uses up way too much water and energy.

Only if I was actually about to starve to death. The thought of eating bugs is beyond disgusting to me, protein or no protein.

Already have. They were crickets and if it weren't for the seasoning on them, they would have tasted like nothing. More texture than anything else, kind of crunchy.

I would be down with eating things made with ground up insects, like that cricket flour.

Bugs freak me out so only if I was starving. *shivers*

Have eaten. They were okay. Would rather eat an insect than a cow or a chicken or a pig.

What did you have?

I have eaten mealworms, scorpion, and grasshopper.

The scorpion tasted a little musty but the other two were just fine.

Not sure I could get over the squick factor tbh, like if I was starving I could, but otherwise probably not.

Only if it's a huge emergency with my life at stake. Otherwise, no. Goodness, no. I can't even bring myself to kill insects (unless they are roaches. I hate roaches.)

I ate a fried grasshopper once. It was okay. It wasn't terrible or anything.

The thing with eating insects is, I don't mind it being insects, but there's so little to them you eat the entire head and everything and that grosses me out. I don't want to eat the heads of living things.

But I'd try them, sure. I think worms would be the easiest, anything where the parts are not easily discernable.

Young cicadas are supposed to be quite good, battered and fried.

In a post-apocalyptic situation, yes. Otherwise, no. It's a mental thing, it just grosses me out. If I were starving, I would get over that. But as long as I'm not starving, I'm not eating bugs.

as long as its not poisoned or bacterial inducing, well yeah. who knows, maybe on survival instinct...

Depends on which ones, how they're cooked, and under what circumstances.

In a casual taste test I might steel myself to try locusts, but I can't say much else than that. I doubt anyone could persuade me to eat silkworm pupae though, anything that looks rather squishy might turn me off badly.

If I was in a desperate survival situation I'd probably have more reason to steel myself.
