Honestly, if the only thing you're equipped to do is find someone else who you think could help me with whatever you think I need help with, yes. I'd rather you left me alone. I'm probably just resting.

If you have the werewithal to actually sit down near me and have a chat, give that a try. If I want to talk to you, I'll let you know. If you have the funds to pick up a couple cups of coffee or soda or bottles of water and want to offer me one and drink with me, that's cool, too.

Basically, offer me your time and your compassion. See me as a person, not someone who can help "save." If all you can do is the latter, keep on moving. Drop a quarter if you feel you have to do something.

Nah, the hero complex is pretty condescending. Not being socially/finacially privileged doesn't mean you don't deserve respect.

OP didn't indicate being someone with a hero complex though.

It's kind of sad people today can't show ANY kind of concern for another human being and not have it questioned to death or labeled as ugly and insincere.

Yes, I know there are some people with hero complexes, but in my experience, those are the kinds of people who deliberately do charitable things in the public eye because doing them anonymously wouldn't earn them praise. But this is different from someone who witnesses another person's suffering and is genuinely concerned for that person's well-being.
