That's not what I meant. I meant that if the OP had something actually useful and attainable piece of help to contribute, then that would be better than not doing it solely because they were afraid of embarrassing someone. Not that they should go after homeless people to be a hero.

Sorry if I sounded dismissive, but I just meant that not everyone who does try to help is just seeing homeless people as someone they can save, a lot of them just want to help because it's decent - usually if they're from an area where there aren't many homeless people and therefore they don't understand the practicalities of most people's situations, but sometimes people can in fact do something useful, especially if it's for a kid who may be genuinely unaware of an option that they actually can go for, and might not be at the "have exhausted all feasible options" point.
