They've apparently said that they're using the original film script and that Frank remains male. That means, Laverne Cox is playing a man. Also, Richard O'Brian is not involved in any way shape or form because he doesn't own the rights to RHPS, just the stage production.

I think remaking RHPS is a utterly terrible idea and even if they announced Eddie Izzard was going to play Frank, I would be still firmly in the "nope!" category. I'd much rather they get their finger out of the their arse and release the recent filmed stage production on DVD (David Bedella was awesome as Frank).

I also feel the casting is a bit...not thought out. IDK, there's just something a bit off about a transgender woman playing a male transvestite. RHPS is not about sexuality or gender, it's about giving into your pleasure and desire so I think making it about gender & sexuality is not really in the spirit of it.
