I think there's an empathy gap in our society in general, and I think that it at times functions in different ways for the different genders. So in that sense, yes.

Agreed.

People expect men to be able to take care of themselves more than women, and that can turn into "just man up and deal with it yourself!"

But many people also see women as being less human, and that can turn into a lack of empathy too.

(also, a lot of the lack of empathy against men comes from other men, not just women. Men are usually the ones obsessed with making sure other men are being "manly" enough.)

from the "Well the wage gap is a bigger problem so the sad ickle men are going to have to just deal with it" to the kneejerk "oh my God, you're terrible" "Die" and such.
