I kind of agree with everybody, so I'll just give an example or two XD
I really liked Mythago Wood. So weird, but very good (hated the sequel, though).

(There was also another book that I read years ago, I forget the title, but we only discover that the main character is actually female halfway through the first book - she was raised as a servant, and convinced that she was male. It was interesting.)
