It's a big exaggerated but older people, and really rural people, basically do talk exactly like that. And even young people definitely have the accent. I never noticed it until I lived abroad for a year and moved back to Fargo. It's really obvious...

Off topic, but I lived in London for a year. A receptionist there last spring, after hearing me talk for like all of fifteen seconds, asked if I was from Fargo. :( I didn't even think I had an accent back then lol. it's all thanks to that damn TV show I guess haha
