I've done this with some of my favorite shows, too. I fare much better talking to a handful of individuals I befriend instead of getting too deep into the fandom side of things as a whole. I don't have the time or patience to get caught up in any fandom drama or BS. And I'm too old for it as well :p. I just want to watch my shows and squee/rant/freak out over them with a few close friends.
