Oh come on. Let's not pretend tumblr, as bad as it is, is worse than 4chan.

As someone who avoided 4chan until very recently because I was afraid of the reputation, I've had a much better time there than I ever had had on tumblr.

You just gotta be smart about what boards you go on.

Having been on both, I couldn't disagree more.

I find it frustrating that the majority female site is so often seen as more hysterical. 4chan has some okay boards, but it's done more damage than tumblr, for all of its awful stuff, will ever do.

I never implied that I tumblr was more hysterical. While 4chan has had some of its members do awful things, I feel more at ease there. Because of its anon nature, I don't have to worry about people bringing up things I've done in the past (which normally isn't an issue for me since I'm pretty noncontroversial, but reciept blogs and their ilk have me worried) and people take my opinions on face value rather than on my identity. Additionally it's easier for me to start up a conversation since the people I interact with aren't dependent on how many followers I have or if I use the right tags.

There's obviously downsides to both and 4chan certainly isn't blameless, but the atmosphere on 4chan has been more welcoming to me and easier to get into than tumblr's.

You're the one making it about gender. No one else here is.
