68. THANK YOU. I hate everyone who thinks Spike/Buffy was the best thing ever. That relationship is FUCKING HORRIBLE. Riley was a hell of a lot better for her.

SO MUCH WORD. Spike was my least favourite of her boytoys.

My friends and I joked about how Riley was way to stable for Buffy. Poor guy didn't stand a chance. :(

I love Spike as a character, he's written well as a complete batshit asshole. But when fangirls go on about how perfect and sweet he is and how romantic Spike/Buffy is... it almost seriously makes me sad, because it is a horrible, fucked up, painful, mutually abusive relationship. HOW IS THAT ROMANTIC? *L*

And yeah, I was actually glad that Riley ended up with somebody who was good for him. Buffy's too big on her pain and angst to handle a stable guy. ;)

Yeah... did they totally miss that scene where Spike tried to rape her? Seriously. There is so much WRONG in that relationship, I don't understand where all the lovey-doveyness comes in. Spike is fun as a badass, but AAGH.

Riley did deserve someone who would appreciate him. He just got the short end of the stick because he was post-Angel. And honestly, it's hard to compete with Angel in Buffyland.

Yeah, I do admit I love me some Buffy/Angel because it has a good balance of him actually being a good person to her and the angst... Riley was too much on the good side for Buffy, and Spike too much on the bad. Pity he left. ^_^;

It is awful that I take great pleasure in throwing that scene in the faces of my Buffy/Spike shipping friends? Spike rocks, but I detest B/S.

I don't like all the Riley-bashing around; Riley was a good guy and I have sympathy for him (except with the vampire whores part), but B/R just wasn't a really workable relationship. Lol, totally right about him being too stable for her. Not only is she too big on the pain and angst for to handle a stable guy, as much as he tried, he was never truly able to accept or understand all her eccentricities (and that's not quite the word I'm looking for). Plus there is the part where B/A trumps all.

But I think Buffy did love Riley, in a way. Which is why I'm writing a fic that's kinda B/R. Although half my mind is killing me for it because I'm a rabid B/A shipper.

Yeah I think R/B was doomed early on. I think yeah, she DID love him, or at least very much wanted to love him. Or loved what he was at that point in her life, the stability she saw that he gave her. And I don't think he liked just being her rock to stand on, he wanted to be more of her equal and to be loved the way he loved her. And I think Buffy thought she did, but yeah... he wasn't quite her type and if I keep on like this I'll go into this huge long thing about Buffy's subscriptions of issues, a lot of which brought on by herself, and yeah that'll be a whole heard of tl;dr that'll hurt to type and hurt worse to read. XD

Don't worry about writing a ship outside your norm! I love me some B/A more than almost anything but I love exploring other ships. I'm a shipping whore. ;)

Personally I think she was mostly settling at first, to try and satisfy her friends and because the alternative was staying clinging to the impossible, but she came to love Riley. Only he loved her more than she could really love him and there were definite issues and it just couldn't really work out.

Don't worry about writing a ship outside your norm! I love me some B/A more than almost anything but I love exploring other ships. I'm a shipping whore. ;)

I'm the same. I can never watch that scene because every time I do, the part of me that absolutely loves Spike gets just a little smaller.

Also, I agree with all of the above. Angel was just perfect. And honestly, most of the time it was Buffy screwing it up when it came to relationships. She certainly screwed Riley.

Yeah, I think she has a bit of a victim complex or something of the sort. On the other hand, while she definitely did screw things up with Riley (and even that had something to do with them not being particularly compatible, I suspect), but I'm not sure it was necessarily usually her screwing things up. Messed up circumstances seem to be attracted to her.

Spike and Buffy? Both great characters, but their relationship was terrible... the only enjoyable part about it, though is that it did have consequences and the writers did know it was unhealthy.

It made good drama, I'll give it that, but it's retarded when people call it true love, because in the end.... he was just obsessed and scary.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks that relationship was true love needs to have their head examined, in my opinion. It was the definition of unhealthy and dysfunctional. The characters even kind of acknowledged that. And it made me lose respect for the characters, both of whom are very cool in their own right.

The sad thing is, I think a lot of people support B/S just because they fangirl Spike and therefore they don't care how messed up it is.
