I dunno. I think with all the stuff Harry has to deal with- he kinda has the right to bitch. Granted that he can be a bit stubborn, and has a short temper- but meh. *shrugs*

Harry's parents were dead, and as sucky as that was...having your parents alive, insane, and not knowing who the fuck you are? A million times worse.

And he hid it from everyone, not wanting pity--and Harry couldnt shut up about it.

So Harry didnt have any room to bitch.

...When did Harry mention his parents when it wasn't already brought up? We got to see him think about them a lot, but, um, that's because the book is in his POV, not Neville's.

The boy was neglected and reviled for most of his childhood, was almost murdered at least once a year, had to deal with nasty rumours, got to watch a friend and a father figure die, was manipulated from the very beginning...

I'd be a bit whiny too, damn.

Er, as far as I remember, Harry pretty much never talked about his parents, or his bad situation at home with anybody. Not even Ron and Hermione. In fact, he states clearly (though in his thoughts) that he doesn't want pity.

And as bad as growing up with insane parentes may be (and I won't argue which is worse, dead or insane), Neville was raised by someone who actually cared about him.

Not that I think Harry was perfect, mind - he was stubborn, sometimes rash, anti-social, incredibly sarcastic (even when it wasn't the prudent thing, like with Snape), and he wasn't exactly the typical fantasy hero, in that he was rather... dark, maybe? Neville does fit the usual mold a lot better, and I do understand not liking Harry (I liked him because he was different); I'm just tired of people ascribing traits and actions to him that he never showed.
