As I said below: It would not be so bad if slash fans would admit to being fetishists and that they are just as bad as men getting off to lesbians.

But they don't. They write essays about how they are just being free with their porn and how this is some kind of sexual opening for women everywhere! And how dare people say anything bad about it, it is just misogynists trying to bring them down!

Yes, all slash fandoms do that. All slash fangirls. All of them. Clearly significant majority are writing these essays as we speak.

Except they're not. It's only the minority trying to be better-than-thou because they're ashamed of their kinks and need to pretend like it's a social cause. Heck, look at FS. Plenty of ladies ready and willing to say they love slash cause it's hot and why do they need another reason?

You sound like those white guys that complain when POC talk about racism.
Or men that complain when women talk about feminism.

If there's a slash fandom that doesn't do what AYRT said, then they're not talking about them. Ever heard that one?

Hmm, I wouldn't say all slash fans are fetishists. I'm a lesbian, and I enjoy slash. I don't find it hot, but there are certain character dynamics I enjoy. When it comes to romantic stories, I'll consume het, slash, and femslash pretty equally because the gender make-up doesn't really matter to me when I'm trying to read cute feel good fics, but I'm exclusively attracted to women.

Also, I know straight guys who enjoy femslash/yuri, and I don't care as long as they don't make creepy comments about me or other lesbians. I think what you enjoy is fine as long as you treat people respectfully.

Why not "admit to it"? Because maybe for some of us, who only slash one or characters with a long established history and relationship to build on, just like the man said he wants, it *isn't the case*.

Sorry to disappoint and break up the judgement riff.

The thing is that you can't compare men fetishizing lesbians to women fetishizing gays because one group has had heir sexualities oppressed for centuries, the other didn't.

Women fetsihizing gays are wrong? Probably. But women being able to enjoy their sexualities and porn is more important that the problematics aspects of it.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think that sexual interest is necessarily fetishizing or objectifying?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
didn't they ever teach you two wrongs don't make a right

this is like kindergarten-level morality

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Except one of them isn't a wrong, it's a mixture of something great (and necessary) and wrongness. But nice try.

But guys who are into lesbian porn don't go around admitting being fetishist, and in fact they don't feel bad for it.

On the other hand, most women already carry enough blame for liking anything sex related.
Hell, just look the slash fandom and how many try to justify liking slash (like, yes, does essays you mention), because just liking it is not enough and there needs to be a ~deep~ and ~important~ reason, otherwise is wrong!

Except now that's wrong too, because of course women enjoying something that it's not approved by some kind of standard need to feel bad and apologize and admit being ___, etc.

"It's okay for me not to feel bad about this because the worst of the opposite gender does the same thing. OBVIOUSLY THIS ISN'T ABOUT GAY ISSUES, THIS IS ABOUT ME AND MY GUY ISSUES! THIS IS ABOUT MY HETEROSEXUALITY!!11!!"

Ugh, straight people.
