It's more than just that; Migratory Slash Fen don't JUST hop from fandom to fandom. They flood those fandoms with their shitty fic that shoehorns every ship into what are essentially stereotypical yaoi seme/uke roles without actually calling it that.

They tend to look for pairings or characters that are superficially similar to each other in some way, and then write them as though the characters are interchangeable. A Migratory Slash Fan will rake A/B from fandom X, C/D from fandom Y, and E/F from fandom Z, and completely disregard those characters' individual personalities and relationship dynamics in favour of turning all the ships into Bland Stereotype A/Bland Stereotype B.

Migratory Slash Fen also love AUs, not because they like to explore what the characters might be like in a different setting, but because AUs make it easier for them to shove the characters deeper into the bland, generic, cookie cutter Diet Seme'n'Uke boxes. That's why they ESPECIALLY love mundane AUs (barista AUs, bakery AUs, flower shop AUs, etc.) and AUs where specific sexual roles are enforced on everyone (A/B/O AU, D/s AU, and the like).

Fandoms overrun by the Migratory Slash Fandom include: Supernatural, Teen Wolf, BBC Sherlock, Glee, Hannibal, Merlin, MCU, XMFC, and reboot!Trek.

As you can see, this subset of fandom is mainly attracted to live-action fandoms where the main characters are mostly white dudes.

So people who basically write the same generic fic over and over again and just change the characters' names? I always assumed they were just lazy and not very creative.

This has been going on for a long time though. I remember when people all migrated to Stargate Atlantis.
