(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 07:35 am (UTC)(link)I actually AM someone who believes that what we see in media (including fanfic) contributes to shaping how we view reality (unpopular as that opinion is at the moment). However, in order for me to find writing about LGBT characters objectionable, the writing would pretty much have to be actively defamatory and prejudicial, or at the very least profoundly insensitive (I'm talking "HIV is a fun plot device!" levels of insensitive). Which is something I very rarely see in fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 09:07 am (UTC)(link)I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I'm not really sure what this means. Maybe because it's late.
Are you willing to elaborate?

1. harassment of gay/bi men at cons
2. brigading for slash ships to be made "canon" as good "representation"
3. people using their familiarity with slash and gay porn to say how they're supportive "allies."
Not to mention some of us do engage in slash as a commentary for the heterosexism of mainstream media.
