Personally, I think it's good that she lost - she gave it a really bad fight, and even though I know it's mostly just an act to generate hype, I hate how she presents herself as being an arrogant jerk. But I also kind of hate the anti-Rousey Internet reaction, and how for MMA douchebags it's turned into "See, she could NEVER beat Mayweather in a fight!" and it kind of feels like they're ragging on her just because they don't like that she's been the most successful MMA fighter and she's a woman. But anyway, good for Holm.

Yeah. The rematch will sell mondo ticket prices and the merch for that will be unreal. It'll be way more profitable than Rousey's next fight would have been otherwise.

I'm thinking the submarine service ought to try and recruit her now though.

Yeah. Holm just dominated her in that fight, and she fell apart. Hopefully this is the real begining of more serious women in MMA, because you just don't quite have the base of talented top tier fighters there yet. Rousey just wouldn't have the track she did so far without that lack. She's incredibly good, but wouldn't have gotten away with gaps in her performance for so long without that lack.

But I've got to say I want Maywether to get crushed. He is just such an incredible asshole and everything wrong with top tier athletes. It's such a shame there's nobody on the horizon to take him out any time soon.

Wether you like him or not, Mayweather will never lose, both because he's technically an excellent boxer and because he will never fight anyone who has a chance of beating him. When his speed starts to go he'll retire. That's what happens in a sport where you can pretty much choose your fights.

He might have an unexpected gap in his schedule and decide to fight an unknown quantity on a whim, then demand a rematch, befriend that new star, and get killed by a steroid abusing Russian. it has happened in sport before.

He's probably only going to fight one more time from what I've read. But we can hope he fucks up and picks someone who can destroy his ass. It's unlikely but we can hope.

Still, it'd be nice if he tried MMA and got his ass kicked, because all he can do is box.

Should someone good at one sport be good at every other? I'm sure most mma fighters would make terrible boxers.

MMA is what it is - mixed. There are MMA fighters that come from boxing backgrounds, including Holm. So many are fantastic boxers. But if all you can do is box, you don't really do well in MMA, because you only know one limited type of fighting.

Ronda was certainly a terrible boxer, that is how this whole thread started.

Still kind of ticked Big Show didn't just go off on Mayweather and just knock the stuffing out of him at WrestleMania that one year.

Yeah Mayweather is a good strategist, but not a great fighter. His fights have been boring and cheap looking.

Ronda is a beast, but I am glad that there are better female fighters too. I'm a fan of hers though because I remember seeing her before she became famous world wide and was just well known in Judo as a teenager. No one in judo ever terrified me as much as her, she was in my weight class back then and I'm just glad I didn't have a match against her.

A few months back I was anonning here about wanting to see a fight between her and Holm, because I was a Holm fan and wanted to see it.

This is very good news to me.

I like it because it means that there are more exceptionally talented fighters in women's MMA. I feel like a lot of the women Rousey's gone through have been good, but they just aren't as top-tier as the male division. Rousey's extremely good at judo, but sloppy with punches, so seeing a fighter take advantages of her weaknesses will hopefully make her push her game even more. Rousey's a great athlete but she needs top tier competition, it is kind of meaningless see her rip through opponents in sixteen seconds, and it is awesome that Holm's upped the game. Hopefully we can get a few more badass, hardened and experienced female fighters.

DA yeah that's it, the female MMA fighters up until now were junk like most MMA fighters are. I think only those who have actually mastered one martial art/combative sport are actually any good.

That's the mildest. I made the mistake of reading a Reddit thread (I know, my own fault) and it rapidly became "See, she could NEVER beat any amateur male boxer."

....Ronda Rousey is a really good fighter. I saw her fight when I was fifteen and she was in my weight class. I used to practice with some of the best junior champions in judo in the country and she was the only one who scared the crap out of me. She and her mom would practice by the mat before the tournament even started and they were seriously throwing each other around, yelling and everything. She's kind of rough to begin with, she had a really tough background. But I still respect her a lot and am happy that she is so famous now. I think it's really fantastic.

Maybe she didn't take this fight seriously enough or maybe she didn't strategize properly against Holm. But Holm is supposed to be an expert in her sport too, so I wouldn't take either of them lightly.
