I literally just watched Stranger Tides for the first time last night. It was...okay? Jack was his usual hilarious self and is always fun to watch, but weirdly, I missed Elizabeth and even Will (I did not think I would miss them at all). The mermaid storyline was a bit trite, but I thought Angelica was interesting. The end fight at the fountain of youth was not very good though. It looked too much like a set.

But really, my heart will always belong to Norrington, and this movie just made me mourn the loss of him all over again.

Seconding! I was watching Cinemasins' recap and could barely stand the fact that they were trashing Norrington so much. :(

Now that you mention it, I think that what I liked about the first film in particular was the mix of interesting characters. It wasn't just the Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow show. Elizabeth, Will and Norrington were all strong characters, and made for a great ensemble. Including Elizabeth's father, and those two odd couple pirates.

One quirky character may end up stealing the show, but it doesn't mean that one quirky character can carry an entire movie alone.
