I don't know enough about your specific medication, but sometimes yeah, doctors are going to want your progress monitored because of the meds. At least for a while, until you're fairly stable. It might help if you asked him to clearly outline what the sessions are supposed to be for and how you can better use them to improve. Showing that you're actively and intelligently engaged with your treatment (and reliably showing up on time for appointments) makes it far more likely they'll trust you to monitor yourself rather than going to see the psychiatrist.
