Not an entirely great parent, but I think Feanor was a fairly good father until he got all obsessive and talked his sons into the Oath. Curufin, also, I think was a good if strict father.

Lucius Malfoy's one redeeming feature is his love for his family and his desire to protect them.

Movie!Thranduil's love of his son I felt was touching. I wish they hadn't cut all the character-building stuff even from the extended edition because that scene where Gandalf reminds him that his wife didn't just leave jewels but Legolas would have been really touching. And as much as I hated some of the characterization of Thranduil, that end scene where he tells Legolas that his mother loved him more than anything where he was also clearly saying I love you more than anything was really touching.
