A normal family man that you kinda suspect beats his wife and stuff cause he seems so on edge all the time. Maybe prison does that to people.

To be fair, Stabler did physically assault his son in one episode.

I liked his character on SVU, even though the writing got pretty ropey at times.

I had seen a fair bit of SVU before I watched Oz, but if I catch a rerun of SVU and he's getting angry at a suspect, my brain is like "dude. just give him what he wants. he will stab you.".

I have no idea how they kept writing him as being that aggressive and still keeping his job for so long. :/

Didn't he visit Russia in one episode and he was like a kid in a candy store. BEAT ALL THE SUSPECTS!

There was one in Europe that I remember about trafficking maybe?

Yeah. His interrogations were not by the book. Ever.

I think the one in Europe was Pandora (the one where the girl is tricked into going to the Czech Republic and is roped into doing kiddie porn. Season 5 Episode 17). I know he beats the crap out of the perp.

Yes! That was going to bug me. I couldn't remember details.
Thank you. :)

That's how I felt when I watched NYPD Blue. A bit weird that I keep hearing this complaint about SVU, but never about NYPD Blue.

I haven't watched NYPD Blue, but I feel that way about most cop shows that have a character who continually takes things too far.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-17 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's because pearl clutchers were focused on the nudity in the early episodes (I'm serious, some network affilates refused to air the first season and a half because if the 'moral outrage')

Two SVU secrets in one day makes me happy.

But that said, Elliot was my least favorite regular/recurring character of the show's run.

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2015-11-17 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Thank god it wasn't just me. I stopped watching around season 6, and only picked the show up again because he left.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-17 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
He was an abusive rage monkey and it was amazing any of his arrests made it to conviction. Elliot was a bad cop and really insanely psycho-dangerous person, I don't get the love for him.

^This.
litalex: Jefferson from John Adams, lounging around (LOL!Jefferson)

[personal profile] litalex 2015-11-17 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, so I wasn't the only one who thought this?

There's one SVU ep in which Lee Tergesen played a suspect, and Stabler was holding the character close, forehead to forehead, and there was no reason for the characters to do this except Oz bleeding over, LOL.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-17 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that was really bad, I have no idea why they did that. And it must have been completely baffling to the non-Oz watching audience.
