I feel it necessary to pop in to threads like this and tell everyone they should watch Homicide: Life on the Streets. It's infinitely superior to SVU, and there's a lot more Munch.

Telling someone HLOTS is superior to SVU is like going up to someone who's eating a takeout asada burrito and saying that prime rib is superior. Well, yeah. It doesn't mean the burrito isn't also pretty good, and that they could have a craving for the asada seasoning and fixings of the burrito that ordering a classic prime rib doesn't deliver.

They are both police procedurals on network TV which even share some characters so this isn't exactly apples and oranges... unless that specific thing you're craving is the spice of shittiness, and then SVU it is.

nayrt, but I think ayrt meant to control for the similarities in the shows with it specifically being an "asada burrito" ie, also a steak dish.

And come on, seasons 6 and 7 of HLOTS are kinda bad. I would take seasons 1-6 of SVU over those. SVU at its worst is worse than HLOTS at its worst, but prime SVU is equal in quality to HLOTS and The Mothership.

Stylistically, Homocide is way different in how they stage the scenes and write the dialogue. It's more like watching a play at the theater than your typical police procedural. The original L&O was similar in the early seasons, but SVU is a different animal despite the fact that it's about the same topic.

different anon:

and Homicide was based on a book originally [Homicide - A Year on the Killing Streets] so that also lends to why the dialogue was like that.

Amen!
