This. My ex-partner and I had been effectively housemates who had sex once in awhile for about three years before I said, enough is enough. There were some bumps for a bit, but overall it's been an amicable divorce. Well, technically we still need to start the process but we're both broke and getting through to the local pro bono lawyers is a pain in the ass as they only take phone calls for about two hours a couple days a week. Bah. But that's just legalities.

... it also helps that we were poly so my relationship with my now-husband (by handfasting, which to me is more important spiritually and between each other than legalities; what matters is the oaths and vows we make to each other, not whether the IRS considers us married) had started before my ex and I broke up, and it was not an issue in the slightest.
