You know, people keep praising the art of Fruits Basket and I don't get it. I'm actually reading it right now, and... the art is not amazing? The characters have total sameface, and there's a lot of issues with proportion.
It's not bad, but it's hardly what I would call stunning, and I would not rate it among top shoujo.

Fruits Basket has a specific aesthetic that appeals to people who like clean, simplistic, almost child-like art. I happen to love it (well, the latter half or 3/5; the art wasn't that great when the series started) because I like that particular aesthetic, but it's definitely not something that would appeal to everyone. People who, for example, prefer a more adult-looking set of characters, or who like their comic art to have a more complex general design, would find it boring, I expect.

I mostly like it because of how detailed the backgrounds are.
I own almost every volume in the series, and whenever I reread it I always notice something new.
