You think he's ugly?

I admit, his hairstyle doesn't really match his face, but I wouldn't call him ugly.

Or is it that he's generically pretty while the others are sort of 'hunky' looking?

You're right, face wise he's pretty. But most JRPG protagonists have that generic pristine face so I guess I take that for granted, or at least I'm not impressed enough by the pretty face to ignore the awful hair.
