I didn't have one before because it was a student account, but once I graduated it became a regular account. And American bank accounts charge fees.

I don't actually have any money to make a credit union worth it. I have 13 dollars in my checking and 25 in my savings. I'm completely broke and living off my parents at the moment, hence not feeling like an adult.

I don't think most American bank accounts charge fees, but they might have a minimum deposit? Like you might have to keep at least $50 in it or something.

Well, yes, I'd have to have 1500 in there in order to not be charged a fee. I don't have that kind of money.

When you are ready to open an account again, shop around first. I haven't been with a regular bank in a while (I use a credit union), but last time I did, it was at a bank that didn't charge fees (my bank before that one got bought out by a larger bank that did charge and I just closed the account and went to another bank). Credit unions are nice.

Not all of them charge fees. Mine doesn't, and I'm pretty sure my parents' doesn't either. Maybe try a smaller local one?

thirding the credit union once you're back on your feet. shit sucks, I feel you - it's basically a fee for being poor. Or responsible. I chucked my "regular" bank and shifted all of my accounts, business and personal, to our credit union precisely because of that fee.

Most US credit unions only make you have $5 or $10 in savings. Some charge fees for checking but it's usually waived if you have direct deposit and/or online statements.
