Text: Sometimes I think Tumblr is the worst thing that's happened to fandoms. (And when I say sometimes, I mean frequently)

Recently it seems like any discussion about the historical policies descends into "Jefferson is literally Satan, Hamilton is pretty much a saint", and anyone who dares to offer a different opinion gets shut down faster than Merrily's Broadway run.

No matter that Hamilton's political views are questionable at times - especially his hypocritical backing of the Alien and Sedition Acts considering his origins, he always has a defense squad ready for him. And if someone says "Jefferson's politics were so much better for the country", that person gets dogpiled by Hamilstans, or gets "He owned slaves though" as if that diminishes his entire political views (Washington owned them too, y'know.)

Neither side was "good". Neither side was "evil". Please just accept that and stay civil when someone decides to enter the fandom for the first time.

Bigger secret: I'm not even American. Why do I care so much?
