Re: Just a general notice

I disagree completely, entirely, and deeply.

I agree that loneliness is not as systematic as many forms of oppression are. I agree that no one owes you meaning in your life.

But I disagree, first, that if you are lonely it is necessarily because of some lack in yourself. That is just not how human beings work. I mean, it's just not how society works. There are a million reasons someone could end up lonely - the path of life can go so many different ways. There is no iron law of the universe that says, if you're a good person, you'll inevitably happy. And it's stupid as hell to act as though there is. And that would all be true even if it weren't the case that contemporary society is, in a lot of ways, deeply and profoundly alienating.

And second, I think in general we as humans owe a duty of care to each other. I think pain is something we should try to be empathetic about. And emotional pain is certainly a huge part of it and I think loneliness has to be a huge part of that. There's nothing wrong with it. It's real pain and people do suffer because of it. And we owe them empathy.

Now, obviously there are more and less healthy ways to approach that loneliness. It certainly does make some people jerks. But on the whole I completely reject the whole mindset you are advancing and I think it is both very wrong and very harmful.

This. I do agree with OP that sometimes people drive others away and that's on them, but in general, doing everything "right" won't guarantee a positive outcome, not 100%.
