... is your aluminum foil made out of something else that doesn't heat up in a hot oven?

It's probably fairly thin foil, so when OP opens the oven, it conducts heat easily to the surrounding environment before they grab it, is my guess.

Foil cooles pretty fast. When we do baked potatoes or the like we always pick them up by the twisted ends to get them out of the oven.

We cook crappy frozen pizza that way all the time.

The only danger is accidentally touching the oven rack -- which will burn your fingertips for sure--when you try to lift up the edge of the foil.
