I can back that up. I haven't necessarily run into the "EVERY character is asexual" attitude so much, but I have seen some people insist that x character is asexual and get REALLY upset when anyone tries to ship them with another character.

Back when I was a wee high school student, figuratively running through fanfiction.net and reading all kinds of nonsense, I thought that the stupidest thing anyone could do is insert random Japanese words into a fic. I was such a sweet summer child. I did not realize how good we had it back in the day. How blessed we were. Ahh, I was so young and foolish.

But seriously, how hard is it to not read fics shipping the supposedly asexual character? Or to click the back button if you stumble across one by accident?

I honestly don't know. I ask those questions about anything people find personally objectionable in a fic they stumble across, really. I didn't realize so many people were apparently being tied down to their chairs and forced to read stuff they couldn't stand!

I LOL'd at your "the good ol' days" sentiment, too. Yeah. Just when you think the internet can't get any weirder/stupider/more ridiculous, someone comes along to prove you wrong, don't they :p?

Without fail. Tumblr seems to have ushered in a new era where fandom is desperate to top itself in lunacy.

I think a lot of these people would be happier if they went outside for a while and stopped thinking about the sex lives of fictional characters. I mean, I love fandom, but there comes a point where stepping away from the computer is a necessity.

I completely agree with you.
