Unless there's another anon that I missed whose mentioned being on the spectrum, don't lie and say you're me.

Whoops, misread your post.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Technically they didn't say they were you. But I agree that they don't have the right to speak for you.

Yeah, I caught that after I posted. I initially thought they said, "The anon who said they are on the spectrum," instead.

They're not really speaking for me. Though using this person said they're on the spectrum as a trump card rubs me a little the wrong way. While it's good to consider different perspectives, either I'm right or I'm not.

Oh yeah that bothered me too. Especially since they used to to shut down the other anon and claim they had poor reading comprehension or whatever or were stupid.

As if being on the spectrum automatically means a person "wins".

Two people with autism can speak up on this issue, have valid points but be very different.

Yeah, definitely. It's important to consider people's opinions who are actually on the spectrum more strongly than someone who has little experience with it, but there's enough variation in the community that taking just one person's thoughts and thinking it covers everyone else's will never be a productive conversation.

Or worse, when people dismiss those who don't have the popular opinion because so obviously faking their identity. I don't debate much so I haven't had it used on myself, but it seems to be an especially popular tactic lately.
