I hear you. I don't claw for justifications or excuses for why bad characters do the things they do, but it's just so interesting to figure out how they tick.

(Cersei is my favorite ASoIaF character, not because she has been a r.obbed g.oddess or because her chapters are so hilariously whacko lol, but because I think she's an interesting theoretical person.)
