Androgynous looks (or people in general)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-21 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been wanting to try shifting my style to be more androgynous, but I feel like everything I put together just looks awkward on me. Anyone got any inspiration recommendations?

You gotta go with what looks best on your body and what you feel comfortable in in terms of fashion choices.

Living as a fairly androgynous looking human, I pretty constantly feel like I have to swing my personal style around to something more masculine, but I've always thought that whatever a person's gender the carriage does a lot more than the clothing choice in terms of giving out sex signals.

It really is all about how you carry yourself, anon.

I read this as "androgynous books" and wondered what that could mean. :x

Seconding Tilda Swinton.

Ummm... Cillian Murphy. That male model whose name I can't think of right now who's modelled women's fashion.

Esther(?) Quek. Ellen Page sort of incorporates some androgynous looks. Janelle Monae.

A lot of the black drapey stuff (Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto, Helmut Lang) is pretty androgynous for men and women.

Unfortunately a lot of these people are super skinny, which sucks. But the general gist of it is: if you want to look more masculine, try to create an inverted triangle. Broader shoulders, tapering the hips, widening the jaw. If you want to look more feminine, try to create an hourglass shape. Widening the hips, slightly narrower shoulders, a bust, etc.

Draping and angles are the key.
