Since I was just complaining a bit yesterday and was way too late for a proper thread, I'll just repost this:

Because so many people kept reccing Star Wars Rebels, I thought I'd give it a try. But damn, every time Kanan opens his mouth, I only see a big grey hairless cow speaking... It's so damn distracting!

I always have this problem - if I know a voice for a certain role, I have trouble disconnecting it from that role when I hear it out of context. There are some cases where the actor is good enough and/or the voice not "special" enough so I'm not bugged by it as much, but mostly it's really distracting for me to the point that it's basically throws me out of the media in question.

Anyone else have voice actors you connect too much with a certain role?

The first time I heard Fenris talk in DA2, I instantly thought "but wait, where's Fran??" I think Fenris and Balthier's voices are just different enough that I was able to separate them, but it surprised me at first.

Gideon Emery is actually one of the actors who - in my opinion - have a very recognisable voice but still manage to play each role different enough that you actually see them as different characters. That's pretty great.

Yeah definitely! Once I got over the original surprise, I felt like he performed them differently enough to be unique. And I just looked him up and apparently he's been in a ton of other games, and I didn't even notice at all, haha.

I noticed him in a very tiny "random villager" role in Diablo 3 some time ago - that was funny!
And he also had a role in Teen Wolf (the only time I actually watched that show haha!) - and watching him act is quite another thing as well.

Wasn't he in Skyrim, too? I think some Imperial soldiers have his voice. It was so confusing hearing that voice come out of those avatars...

I haven't played Skyrim, so I don't know. But he does a lot of extras in addition to bigger roles, so it's very likely.

As of Mists of Pandaria, he also voiced Lor'themar Theron in WoW.

James Earl Jones will always be Mufasa to me.

And he'll always be Vader to me.

I think I'll have problems with Downton Abbey because I associate Jim Carter with a narration role for a rather Hexing narration.

Jim Carter has a very distinctive voice. I don't know his narration roles, but I can imagine that it could be distracting.

I always associate H. Jon Benjamin with Ben Katz from Dr. Katz. I imagine the casts of Archer or Bob's Burgers in the studio recording and they are normal people except one of them is this squiggle animated dude.

Every time I hear a Samuel Vincent character (Double D from Ed, Edd, and Eddy; Flim from MLP; Hikaru Shindo from Hikaru no Go; Krypto the Super Dog; Megane-kun/Dexter from Hamtaro...

I BLAME IT ON SIDES BEING MY FAVORITE IN THAT SHOW.

Vic Mignogna's voice in freaking everything never fails to make me think of Ed.

Mona Marshall's voice always reminds me of Izzy from Digimon, which made watching Chobits pretty amusing. Debi Derryberry will forever be Jimmy Neutron.

Chris Pine. It's one of the reasons I hated Jack in Rise of Guardians.

Hugh Jackman I could wave cause I love him to pieces, but Pine? Just...no.

While it never takes me out of the show or anything, every time I hear Keith David's voice all I can think of is Goliath.

Here's a weird one, but I was watching Game of Thrones and Bran finally meets Brynden Rivers, the Three-Eyed Crow. And I start freaking out because I know that voice-- it's Samuel Whiskers, the bad rat from The Roly Poly Pudding. The actor is Struan Rodger, but he will always be Samuel Freaking Whiskers to me. (He's also the Face of Boe on Doctor Who.)
