Stephen Colbert gloriously schools scientists on 'Lord of the Rings'

Earlier this week, a group of scientists in Brazil described and named a new species of cave-dwelling spider. They decided to name the spider Iandumoema smeagol after the original name of a Lord of the Rings character that lives in a cave and coveted the One Ring, but Colbert — a known LOTR nerd — isn't really happy with the choice.

They had a chance to name it 'Shelob' or one of the other giant spiders in the Appendices, AND THEY BLEW IT.
